Alleviate Your Back Problems With An Ergonomic Office Chair

People who sit in a computer chair at length have a propensity to hunch. This position stretches the spinal ligaments and strains the spinal discs. If this continues for too long, it can lead to major harm to the back. The good news is, there is a way you can minimize the stress to your anatomy that arises from this circumstance. Shop for a well made ergonomic chair, and make sure to adjust it properly. This type of chair offers maximum support for your spine and promotes proper posture while sitting.

Many folks develop back pain as a result of sitting in a computer chair for many hours each day. If you are already experiencing difficulties with your back, they will only become worse. Remaining seated in a stationary posture results in pain in the back, neck, shoulders, and arms. As well, pressure is placed on the vertebrae.

However, there\’s more to using one of these chairs than simply setting it up and sitting. It is essential that you adjust the chair to match your body structure. You should adjust the back rest so that it provides support to the lumbar area of your back. The height of the chair needs to be such that your feet are resting on the ground with your thighs in a horizontal position. If not, you will need to use a foot rest.

Your feet shouldn\’t be dangling while you\’re sitting. This position places pressure on the tissues of your thighs and knees and can result in discomfort in your lower legs. There must be a space about the size of your fist between the front of the chair and the back of your knees. If there is not, drop the chair a little. If possible, angle the seat somewhat forward to further relieve any pressure.

An ergonomic chair is specifically engineered to prevent and eliminate back pain. But moving around throughout the day is also a necessary aspect of dealing with the problem. No matter how comfortable you may feel in your ergonomic chair, prolonged sitting is hard on your back. Consequently, you need to make a point of getting out of your chair often throughout the day. Stand up, go for a quick walk, or even stretch for several minutes. Even just a few minutes of activity will get your blood moving.

Standard office chairs won\’t cost you as much as good ergonomic chair. However, they\’re of little use for the prevention of back pain. Choosing a chair with ergonomic features is your best option to alleviate or prevent back pain.

From kneeling chairs to the ergonomic ball chair, you can read all about ergonomically correct seating at the Ergonomic Chair site.

Sciatica Relief Thru Chiropractic Care

Many people suffer from Sciatic pain. What is Sciatica? Sciatica is pressure on the Sciatic nerve which is actually two nerves, the tibial and common peroneal nerve, bound together by common sheath of connective tissue. Both of these nerves form the Sciatic nerve, and they originate from L4-S3. Pressure or injury to the sciatic nerve results in sciatica. Sciatic pain can start in the back and go all the way down the buttucks, into the sides of the leg and foot.

Many cases of Sciatica can be helped by chiropractic care. When a person has sciatica, the first step is identifying the cause of the sciatic pain pattern. Orthopedic exams, neurological testing, and other diagnostic testing such as MRI\’s can help determine if the Sciatica is cause by herniated discs or other reasons. Many times, Sciatica is caused by what has been coined Piriformis Syndrome. The piriformis muscle is a small triangular muscle deep in the buttocks. The Sciatic nerve passes either through the piriformis muscle, or underneath it depending on how a person is born. When the piriformis muscle is irritated, it can contract into a chronic state of spasm. This often times will press on the Sciatic nerve.

Through chiropractic care, we can diagnose the cause of the sciatic pain and properly correct the Sciatica. If the Sciatic pain is caused by Piriformis syndrome, certain chiropractic treatments are utilized to relax the piriformis muscle and lessen the nerve root irritation. In my experience as a chiropractor over the last decade, I have found many cases of chronic sciatica healed over a relatively short period of time once the piriformis muscle spasm had been addressed and corrected.

If the Piriformis muscle is not involved, and the cause is L4-S3, it is possible that a malposition of the vertebrae in the lower spine is causing impingement and nerve root irritation on the nerves that form the Sciatic Nerve. We call this a subluxation. A subluxation is the malposition of a vertebrae causing interference to the nerve flow hence creating nerve irritation. Another possible reason for Sciatica could be from a bulging, protruding, or herniated disc. This is when a disc has pushed outside its normal boundaries and pressed against the spinal cord or spinal nerves causing nerve irritation.

After determining through neurological and orthopedic exams, and using diagnostics such as x-rays, we can find the possible subluxation that is contributing to the Sciatica, and restore proper alignment and biomechanics to that vertebrae and the adjacent one causing the irritation. Freeing up the subluxation many times helps the sciatica in relieving the pressure off the nerve, and healing the pain. Incorporating chiropractic, physical therapy, and disc decompression is often very effective in restoring integrity to the disc, and allowing the body to heal itself.

3 Steps For Lasting Back Pain Relief

If you live in constant back pain or if back pain is a recurring nightmare, then back pain relief may appear almost impossible. However, today I would like to teach a simple technique to use now to help ease pain and teach you the 3 easy steps to get long lasting relief.

The majority of back pain is caused by tight muscles. Getting muscles to relax helps to ease pain but to get lasting relief you need to do more so all the causes are eliminated.

For now though, to reduce muscle tension there are a few methods. You could try stretching but if your muscles are really tight this may actually aggravate the pain. So one of the simplest techniques is using Acupressure.

Acupressure has been used for many years effectively to reduce pain and help muscles to reduce in tension. Yes it is from the east, but it is also proven to work. You no doubt have tried many ways to ease your pain, what is one more thing to try – especially if it works.

However, not all techniques work including Acupressure which is why I always teach my clients 16 different ways to get relief from pain.

To help ease some of your pain now though use the following technique. Please remember, to stimulate an Acupressure point you need to:

* Rub the point firmly, but reduce the pressure if tender.

* Press and rub in a small circular motion for about 20 seconds and then relax.

* Repeat this 3 times having a break in between of about 20 seconds.

* You can stimulate the point often during the day to help ease pain.

The point to try to ease your pain is on the inside of your ankle. This point helps with back pain whether it is lower or even neck pain. The point is specifically between your Achilles tendon (the large tendon attaching to your heel) and your inner ankle bone.

Apply pressure, rub in that circular motion for 20 seconds, relax and repeat a few more times. This should help to reduce pain and will even help muscles relax.

Remember this should ease pain but for some it may not, if you don\’t get relief it doesn\’t mean Acupressure won\’t help. It just means you need to try other techniques that will help ease your pain.

To get long lasting back pain relief though, you still need to use 3 simple steps.

First you must find the exact cause of your pain which is the imbalances that exist in your spine. The second step is removing pain through symptom based techniques, including Acupressure. Finally the third step is rebalancing your spine and removing the underlying cause of your pain. This only takes about 20 minutes to achieve and only a week or two to rebalance.

So apply the technique above but please make sure you follow the 3 easy steps for back pain relief – life does become more enjoyable being free of back pain.
